Admission Requirements

Applicants should have completed a baccalaureate degree in either chemical, civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering or have an equivalent background. For information about how to apply, please visit the UNH Graduate School.

Ocean Mapping Option

Each student is required to take these core courses:

OE 810   Ocean Measurements Lab
OE/ESCI 871   Geodesy and Positioning for Ocean Mapping
OE/ESCI 874   Integrated Seabed Mapping Systems
OE/ESCI 875   Fundamentals of Ocean Mapping II
OE/ESCO 865   Underwater Acoustics
OE/ESCI 972   Hydrographic Field Course
OE 990   Ocean Engineering Seminar I
OE 991   Ocean Engineering Seminars II







In addition, each student must select at least 4 additional approved credits, including one course from these electives:

OE 854   Ocean Waves and Tides
OE 857   Remote Sensing of the Environment
OE 895   Time Series Analysis
ESCI 858   Introduction to Physical Oceanography




Students are also required to complete a master's thesis for 6 credits.

IHO/FIG/ICA Category A Recognotion

Students may fulfill the Category A (professional) International Federation of Surveyors/International Hydrographic Organization/International Cartographic Association (IHO/FIG/ICA) Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors by completing some additional specialized requirements.
