Giuseppe Masetti received an M.Eng. in ocean engineering (ocean mapping option) from the University of New Hampshire in 2012, and a master’s degree in marine geomatics (with honors) and a Ph.D. degree in system monitoring and environmental risk management from the University of Genoa, Italy, in 2008 and 2013, respectively. Giuseppe served with the Italian Navy from 1999, achieved the first FIG/IHO Category A certification in 2010, and was Operations Officer aboard the hydrographic vessels ITN Aretusa and ITN Magnaghi.
Beginning in August 2013, he was a Tyco Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Center, where he focused on signal processing for marine target detection. He joined the faculty as a Research Assistant Professor in January 2016 and, in 2020, moved to the Danish Hydrographic Office. Giuseppe retains his affiliation and continues to work closely with the Center as an Adjunct Associate Research Professor.
His areas of interest include methods to improve survey data acquisition, processing, and validation, with a focus on acoustic seafloor characterization. He is the lead developer of the HydrOffice research framework. He is also developer and manager of the E-learning Python for Ocean Mapping (ePOM) initiative.
